My barrel is a 1 in 8 twist. When I was starting, I loaded up 20 round of 220gr round nose and H110 powder. I didn't even clock them. I wasn't overly impressed. Not that they didn't shoot well, just not what i was wanting, too much arch. I was playing with scopes at the time and as I remember I was in/around a 6 inch spot at 100 yards. As I was more interested in pressures and function, for me that was very acceptable. My loading was giving pressure signs some/most of the time and I was more interested in that. I dug two slugs out of the log back stop I had at the time.

So, yes 220grain bullets should stabilize with a 1 in 8 twist.

1/8 will work fine for 300 BO. Some people running a lot of subs or even heavier than 220 grain bullets may want or need 1/7.


I have a PSA upper and it was around $600 with out BCG but I had added extras like a more expensive quad rail. I have shot super and subsonic factory rounds and reloads and it has functioned flawlessly. I do not have a suppressor.

Awesome to know. I probably won't run 220s much unless I get the best groups out of them. And thanks to Car54 showing me a website and link with reviews, I think I am going to go with a SOTA. They seem reasonably priced and from what I've read, people are very happy with them. Now to optics, are there any low-mid powered scopes specific for this caliber? I'm at a three way stop sign on which way to go. Either full scope, a red dot and magnifier or ACOG. I know that Trijicon doesn't have one compensated to this caliber unless that's changed in the last few days when I last looked. Price on this isn't much of an issue so I'm open to whatever.

Leatherwood/Hi-Lux has a reasonably priced 1-4x with a 300 BLK/7.62x39
calibrated reticle.

I have the original CMR scope with the generic BDC on my 9.5" upper & it works fine. I zeroed it with the 115 gr. UMC, then figured out how many clicks up I needed for the 220 gr. subs. Any other rounds should fall between those two.

Mine has the lighted green reticle. It contrasts quite well with a red LED light I use for night hunting.

I'll have to look into those. What about the Eotechs? I have never actually shot a weapon with one on them

Does anyone have any experience with these? I ran across it last night. It's a little out of my price range at the moment but I'd like to know what people like/dislike about them, even if its in a different caliber
