.243 ar platform

Yalls opinion on best Bang for $$$$...for hunting purposes a .243 for the growing child ....I want an adjustable 6 position stock ,round tube ,flattop rec . remington doesnt offer nothing but mossy oak ....we like traditional black . Are there other manufact. that do the 243.other than dpms /rem / armalite?

have you considered the 6.8 spc round? it is more popular and would be easier to find in an AR platform. my friend is in the process of building his. and his main use will be deer hunting. thats why he sold his .223 AR... from what ive read the round was designed to be between the smaller .223 and the larger .308... just food for thought

options

yes ....have considered the 6.8 ,but i dont handload and the .243 is tried and true and with the new loadings such as the winchester powermax ,the tsx barnesbullets in federal factory ammo the accuracy and knockdown would be better with the 243 than the 6.8 out to 300 yrds

If worst came to worst, you could buy the rifle setup that you like, but get it in .308, and buy a .243 barrel for it. It will use the same bolt and the magazines should work as well. There just aren't many manufacturers out there making them in .243.

I lied. DPMS has two models chambered in .243, both all black rifles, both flat top, but they both have A2 styles stocks. The stocks wouldn't be that hard or that expensive to change though.

Here's the link:

DPMS: AR-15 Rifles, Parts and Accessories.

when kid gets in highschool

By the time your kids a freshman in high school He/She should handle a full size hunting rifle just fine, if your dishing that cash out buy him a Browning BAR in ..243winchester.

barrels are cheaper than rifles, and on an AR there ez as hell to swap. get a complete .308 set up, and u can get a 243 and a 22-250 barrel, then you would have the best of the best for target, hunting, and varminting.
