I was not sure where to post this post so please excuse me if its in the wrong place.

Are there 223's that are not AR-15's?

I like the 223 in a traditional hunting type of setup. Does someone make this type of setup, if so please leave the make and models. Estimate cost if you have a guess.

Yes- the Mini-14 is a .223. It is also available in single shot rifles, bolt action rifles, etc.

Basically any short action rifle, bolt action or even a lever gun, can be chambered for the .223 round. For that matter you can probably get an AK that is chambered for .223 if you look hard enough.

Is there a specific type or look to a rifle that you would like to research in this endevour? Because from bolt action pistols, to bolt action rifles, to semi autos, pumps and lever actions can all be built around a civilian, commercial .223 round.

One thing to be aware of is almost all commercial off the shelf bolt guns chambered for 223 are either 1:12 or 1:14 twist limiting you to extremely lightweight 30 grain bullets up to 55grain.

If your varmint hunting thats fine. If your hunting deer or bigger i would recomend something with more oomph. The 223/556 is a war round that is excellent for self defense target shooting and varmints not so hot as a large mammal hunting bullet.

Savage makes some very accurate bolt action hunting style rifles and uses a 1:9 twist. Some of the rifles come with a 1:12 twist that favors lighter bullets. Mossberg recently came out with their MVP which is a bolt action that shoots the Nato 5.56x45 as well as the 223 and uses AR mags. I have a CZ 527 American sporter that has the 1:12 twist. It loves 45 grain bullets but tolerates 55 grain bullets. My grandsons Savage 10 is sub MOA with 55 grain hand loads.
Remember you can shoot 223 in a rifle chambered for the 5.56x45 but do not shoot 5.56x45 in a rifle chambered for 223.

I have a Remington 700 BDL in 223 with a heavy barrel. It will shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards with handloads and 3/4" with factory ammo. I think it has a 1 in 12 twist. It's a great rifle for varmints and predators but I would not consider a 223 for anything larger regardless of bullet weight.

You can get wood furniture on an AR and use a 5 round mag to get a real sporting look. Remington has sporting style ARs too.

as said before, if you want a bolt action, there are plenty of options. many major firearms companies make a bolt 223.

hunting type rifle in 223 that is semi auto? you want a mini 14. is there anything else?
