1972 Colt Ar-15 Sp1

Just wondering what you can tell me about this Colt, its worth, how good a gun is it etc. It seems to be in good shape, haven't fired it yet but I I will be shooting it before too long.

they are great rifles. dont shoot steel cased stuff out of them however the chambers arent chrome lined and they are chambered for 223 only. in pristine ondition they run up to 2k$ to the right collector more if they have the original colt scope stamped made in japan

Thanks for the info Jon, especially about what ammo to use. The gun was my Dad's and he didn't shoot it much at all, it's very good condition.

A real beauty! Great shape for an old gun!

Nice! Do you plan on keeping it? Does it have the twist stamped in the barrel? I believe some of those early ones were a 1:12, but I'm not sure. Jon or someone feel free to verbally stomp me if I'm wrong.

rocshaman 11-29-2012 12:03 PM

Yes, I plan to keep it and it is a 1:12 twist on that barrel. I've read you need to use lighter grain bullets with that twist. Is a 55 grain to heavy for that twist? Or should it be lighter than that?
