1911 for ar

I'm thinking about selling my 1911 for an AR I'm thinking I can get 800$ for it, are there any good AR for that price? Would it be cheaper to build it?

I'd look at PSA, you can get a quality AR for that price. You can go complete rifle or buy parts there. I always go the parts route except for a stripped lower that I get locally. Last year I put together a PSA that way (including lower) for under $700. No doubt it's a little more today.

If you go parts at the pace you can afford then you might be able to keep your 1911! I took about six months to finish last year's build since I waited for sales.

ETA:
I see you're in CA, be sure to get a CA compliant AR.

Any mil spec lower should match up with any mil spec upper, there can be some wiggle. Also the finish can vary some between brands.

Like Gator said, you can mix'n'match milspec lower and upper receivers. I buy the stripped lower locally since you can't have it shipped directly to you while the rest of a normal rifle can be shipped to your door. You can have a lower shipped to a FFL dealer near you and pay a transfer fee along with filling out federal and local forms. Usually if you buy a lower the FFL has in stock there is no extra transfer fee.

Take a look at the AR-15 Primer sticky above, it'll help much more. And keep in mind you need a CA compliant AR.

Don't do it!
. 'sell the 1911' that is.

Slick Arms (another thread) has quite a few AR's listed for under $700

Tell your relatives you need them to donate to your therapy, then drop your head a bit and sniff.

While this may not work, I would still suggest you keep what you have.

Here is the link to the other thread.

I wouldn't trade my 1911 for any AR15... And it's just a Taurus.

Don't get me wrong, I like the AR, I just love the 1911.

I saw the slick guns 6 ar under 700 $ are those good brands? Only ar I've ever used is colt and h&k ( I'd love a colt ) but way outta my price range

jackal6 06-24-2013 03:52 AM

The Palmetto State Armory is a very good brand, I'm actually surprised to see one in that price range.

PSA is a relatively young company and won't be so affordable forever.
