I bought the S&W M&P sport. under $800. It is extremely accurate shooting rifle.
Has 1-9 twist, 5.56 barrel ( so you can shoot 223 safely) has flip up magpul rear site and has never failed me. I installed a Vortex strikefire red dot scope., but can use open sites at any time.

For 1500$ I got a great Colt A2. I say eff the ammo. Get a rifle you

will be very happy with, for a long time. Get the ammo later.

It's a decent $900-ish midlength, and reasonably light at 7lbs. Good barrel, generally solid rifle. Not a bad gun at all, but there are others I'd prefer at the same price. If I ended up with an M400 I'd probably go through it and upgrade a few parts (possibly including the BCG, which is essentially the gun's engine).

If you go shopping for an M400, pay attention to the details and specs of the gun you buy. Some M400's are better equipped than others.

Thanks sweeper, good information to know, I think a lot of us get caught up on the price/ money and forget to compare apples to apples.

Do not go to the Palmetto State Armory website, repeat DO NOT..you will find top quality uppers in every configuration along with parts and ammo all at super reasonable prices. Do not go there or you will get PSA sickness for which the only cure is to buy more! During their recent warehouse move the deals have come fast and ever changing, free shipping ends at midnight and many of the specials are gone but somehow they come back with more...waiting for three uppers for builds in progress now..expect about three weeks for shipping.

Check out PWS. A great option; AK reliability with AR accuracy and upgradability.
