I have read the letter and I called the NFA Branch myself to find out if shouldering the brace device makes it a SBR because if u read it it says" the device when attached to the firearm does not convert it to be fired from the shoulder and would not alter the classification of a pistol or other firearm . Here the sketchy part " while a firearm so equiped would be regulated by the Gun Control Act . "Equiped how ? " Equiped to fire from the shoulder ?
I was told this device is not considered a stock and it does not matter how its fired its not going to make it a NFA firearm even if shoulder fired. This was from someone directly at the NFA branch . I have seen the NFA pull items that previously werent NFA items. I see this one following the same path in the future .

You can shoulder the buffer tube in a "pistol" AR. You can attach a large flashlight mount and use it as a foregrip, because it is not a foregrip. Also slidefire, fwiw. In fairness we do get some leeway with the toys. One more: tannerite
