A friend has a yugo sks that will not eject when fired. We took the gas system apart and cleaned it. I believe the part in question is near the grenade launcher that opens the gas port. It seems to function ok as the gas port is open when firing but it will not eject the spent shell and chamber a new round. Any suggestions? Thanks

Possibly ammunition choice, Not from my own experience but have been told by a few different people. Also if the sping for the bolt has been taken out be sure the bent end (end opposite rod) is forward.

The parts at the shutoff valve erode from the hot gasses, and leak. Replace valve, be sure that the tappet (bit that is to the rear of the piston, and is struck by the piston) is clean and lubed. for replacement valve, try HERE: Gas Shut Off Valve, NI

He nailed it about the gas valve, they get worn and leaky and do not provide the power to the piston that cycles the action when fired. Replace it, you can find them online.
