Like many of the others, I don't hate the AK, just hated having it shot at me.

What I do dislike, however, is the reason too many people give as to why they like it "it doesn't need to be cleaned for a very long time". Great way to decide on what firearm you are going to buy.

I can't talk for everyone, but, around here it's the mall ninja special. Most folks round here tend to go bolt action. The only semi's are 22's.

AK/SKS whatever. I only ever see jackasses with them.

Not to call anyone names or start anything. That's just the association round here.

I don't own one because of the AK47's I have shot it was necessary to put my eye-socket on the stock to line up the sights. The ergonomic design of the garden variety of the AK47's stock and I do not gee-haw.

I shoot with a bunch of guys that are Vet-Nam vets & none of them like my AKs, I think it comes from being shot at with an AK.
Or getting your a$$ kicked by them that would make you fear them.
One guy was wounded from an AK in Nam & he says he can still feel the pain every he hears an AK fire.
That would put a fear in me too if I had to feel that pain with every shot, I try not to shoot my AKs when he is there, or I go to the other end of the range.

I find the ak47 ergnomics clumsy and slow. They arent pleasent to shoot. They are cheap thats what they have going for em. But cheap also means poor quality so parts breakage is common. I think thats why a lot of people skip em is because the typical shooter expects a little bit more quality wise

"parts breakage is common"? What? I've never even hear of an AK breaking. Is it the barrel, the piston, or the bolt? Those are the only things that can break that would stop an AK. In fact that's what makes the design so brilliant is you can build them so cheap and they don't fail.

From an engineering standpoint;

I own an AK, blinged it all out and loved it!

UNTIL......I got my Colt LE6940.

I don't shoot the AK much anymore.

+ 1 Mason, QFT!

I can NOT fathom myself ever sensing pride for owning a gun I don't need to clean!

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

I have an AK also. I love it. Of course I never was shot at by one. With all due respect, what ever happened to, "Guns don't kill people, people do". Doesn't that work here also. If you dislike the platform, accuracy issues, cheap manufacture, etc...more power to you. PTSD? Feel free to hate. Otherwise it's just another contraption that throws lead. I think it's silly to demonize ANY firearm.

Its not the gun itself. Its the memorys that come back when you hear the sound of one going off.
