I was wondering what's the farthest distance that someone on here has accurately shot using a .223 saiga rifle using iron sights or any other optics? Cause I was hitting a 1 foot by 1 foot steel gong Target 7-8 times out of 10 from 240 / 250 yards away straight out of the box with iron sights. I wanna get a good scope and try for 400-500 yards,but I wanna get some input from other peoples experience's with long shots from a .223 saiga. Thanks

we shoot 1000 yard matches with the ar15 (dcm match grade), open sights, 80 gr, sierra matchkings. make several hits in 10" x-ring.

.223 and .556 are food cartridges for medium range. Not like a .308 but they serve their purpose. Your biggest challenge would be the short sight radius of an AK platform and lining it up precisely. There are plenty of good optic options out there to help get it squared away...

7of8 12' at 250 with irons. You need to enter a match. Nobody I shoot with can do that, but we're a bunch of old men with cataracts and coolers of beer, but we do alright most of the time though. We shoot pistols most of the time for a dollar a shot.
But fun is the name of the game,when we get to drunk to shoot, we pitch horse shoes, and yes we have a van with a DD. or I have a five bedroom cabin at the lake we can play poker alnight if we have any money left and depending what kind of mood the wifes are in.Usually they just strip search us for any viagra and tell us to have a ball.

My bad, we measured it today and its 180 yards, (540 ft) the hill behind the one we measured out to is 250 yards.

drinking, shooting, poker, horseshoes, and women sounds like a nice vacation to me. Sounds like something the old lady and I need to plan for this summer. Thanks for the idea.

A friend of mine has one that I have repeatedly hit the 14" gongs on the 300yd range.
With the scope on it I can hit the small prairie dog shape on the end of the 300yd range easy.
