I am looking at buying an WASR as a gift. I bought a WASR 10 about 3-4 years back and besides replacing the trigger group and refinishing the outfit it's been a damn good AK variant.
I see they don't sell WASR-10 new anymore. They are selling WASR 2's.

A WASR-2 is basically a WASR-10 but chambered for the 5.45x39mm
ammo. |

I still see plenty of WASR-10s offered around town as well as several internet dealers. Great prices lately too. |

You think you got burned? I paid over $100 more than that for mine with 3 mags, bayonet, etc. He was the only guy in town that had any and I wanted one "right now". Now there everywhere for $400, except for his shop. He's got some Maddai used in good to fair condition for $575 and a new WASR 10 for get this. . . $795 ! ! !
I told him that you can get them everywhere for half of that price. He felt insulted and told me I was welcome to do business elsewhere.
I never went back and ended up developing a great relationship with the men and women at another shop. Bought a membership to their shop (usually saves me 10-15%) and their range, which is outdoor right in a river valley east of town and have probably gave the $2500-$3000 worth of business since then and will be doing more once I heal up (knee surgery) and get back to work.
Anyways any know where I can pick up a WASR 2 ??? I keep asking, but haven't got a lead.

Hey Diggs,
I'd say a gunshow, That's where I found mine, It was a Post ban with Thumbhole stock, Not bayonet mount and 10 rd single stack magazine.
Changed out the stock and 30 minutes with a Dremel and it now accepts double stack mags.
Back when I bought it 5.45x39mm was going for $118 a spam can, not sure what it is now. But I took advantage and stocked up.
I doubt you'll find one in a gun shop, but you may find a Polish Tantal which is even better than the Wasr.
Good Luck

Yeah, the shop has a Tantal, but its a CAI build and I'm not much of a fan of the folding stock. Its priced at $500 and I'd have to spend at least another $100 for new furniture, then another $100 for mags, so I think I'll just wait a while and drop the cash on a Lancaster or Arsenal. |
