Ok tell me what you think. How many rounds fired semi auto as fast as you can pull trigger and change mags before the barrel gets too hot to be useful. Same question with ar.

I fired about 70 to 80 rounds through my Yugo 59/66 real fast until I had a round cook-off while I was trying to aim at a new target.
I didn't do that any more with that gun.
I have bump fired drum mags full of ammo through my AKs & ARs but I have never had one round cook like that one in my SKS did.

Way back in the good 'ol days----when ammo was CHEAP.

Before I replaced the wooden handguard on my SKS D model (takes AK
mags) with a perforated metal handguard:

120 fast rounds---4 30 rd magazines---the handguard would catch fire,
and the barrel would get so hot it looked gray instead of blue.

Saw a guy run around 200 rds through a AK shorty full auto as fast as
he could change mags---then light a cigarette on the barrel.

Since heat destroys barrels, i try to not fire more than 15-20 rounds without letting the barrel cool. I've got a lot of old guns with pristine barrels.

I see "cook off " ratings for barrels, on occasion.

Considering how much my barrels heat after just a few rounds,

I wonder about the accuracy of these claims.

180 to 220 rounds before cookoff?

I doubt I'll try to independently verify them...
