FYI Classic Arms has Yugo SKS's on sale right now. $249, I think.

Congrats on the SKS - wonderful rifles with a proven combat pedigree.

Before you do any shooting - soak that bolt for hidden cosmo that can cause slam-fires.

Outstanding info! Thanks all again. Can't wait to provide a first range report...although I may have to defend against some beer cans before I get to the range

Although I have zero experience with the mini 30, I do own two Chicom SKS rifles. One is stock and was made during the Chinese manufacture under the guidance of the Russians. It has the 10 round box magazine and is scoped. The other has been converted to the AK removable Mags. I added a scope to this rifle. They both have the hardwood furniture.
I thoroughly enjoy shooting these rifles. They are accurate, relatively inexpensive to purchase and have been reliable.

Well, the muzzle blast would certainly lead you to believe they're

mini-30s, and for all we know, they could have been, it's just that they

mention "mini-14 rentals" a lot when adding up their expenses for clients.

(Yeah, WAY too much time on my hands. Actually, I have the first 3

seasons on DVD, but that's another story...)

I was actually going to put up my sks for sale. I never shoot it any more since I got my AR-15. I find it heavy and unwieldy but maybe thats just me. I was also looking at a few mini 30's on auction, but after numerous forum threads I'm rethinking that now. Not to take this completely off the rails, but is there yet another alternative (besides a saiga, thinkin about that too).
