Oops wrong button...

Anyway, looked new. The gas tube had a lot of wiggle to it. The lateral was pretty tight, but it would rotate more than I thought it should, like 20 degrees or so. Is this normal or an issue?

Search didn't bring me to anything.

I dont think its normal. Mine dosent move at all. I think it would be ok as long as there isnt any left to right or back and forth movement though.

Is the tube rotating or just the wood in the handguard?

Does if function properly? This is a rifle designed for combat, not match shooting. A little "slop" in various parts is normal and advantageous to reliable functioning.

The tube rotates a lot, with the guard. There is a small amount of in and out movement, much like my marriage. :)

Primer 1, that tube should be pretty much rock solid both end to end and side to side. A slight amount of rotational play is normal, but only a slight bit.

Loose usually means leak, which could affect the rifle's cycling.

The tube should be tight enough in its cradle at the rear sight block that you have to give it a little whack with the heel of your hand, or maybe even a rubber hammer to get it to seat, assuming that the locking lever is in the correct location.

Thanks everyone for responding, I'll tell him. The gun shoots and cycles flawlessly. I'll have him show it to a gunsmith to be sure.
