I too prefer my
SKS.
My AK seems more like a novelty gun.
I am talking about mine, semi-auto.
Although a friend, a viet nam VET.
says the AK will shoot through a tree.

What's a reasonable going price for an SKS these days? I'm not worried too much about the stock..if it's in really bad shape I'll just replace it.

You can still find them for $299. Just have to look around

Century has SKS's for $299. The stock is a p.o.s if you ask me. But other than that the barrel and the guts of it are just fine. Just needs a bit of elbow greese and bullets will fly. Having shot an AK47 and an SKS. I think the SKS is better with my SKS I can reach out further and it has better accuracy plus if you have no mags an AK is about a useful as a club whilst an SKS if you have no stripper clips just load them in by hand. Mind you the AK47 I shot was a true Assault Rifle as in it was selective fire had a semi automatic, fully automatic, safe positions. I couldn't get a lot of the shots on target with the AK though.

Personally I prefer the SKS but either firearm will get the job done for you.

My two LGS, last I was in, didn't have any in-stock. I think the only place I could find them other than the internet would be at Gun Shows. I'm not afraid to haggle the price but I don't want to offend them with a ridiculous counter offer. I guess my bottom line question is; How much is too much, in your opinion, to pay for an average condition SKS?

Well they're not worried about anyone being offended by obscene costs and price gouging.

I've had both over five years and each has its place. But if I could only have one I'd keep my AK. It's way too much fun!

It's even more fun when you can hit the target! Just kidding.
