DefaultSaiga gas tube cover... do you need it?

The metal cowling on top of the gas tube on my Saiga .223 came off and i have no idea where it went. Although the gas tube itself still appears to be intact and secure, I don't want to fire off a round and have the fore end explode in my face. Will the gun still function safely and effectively without the gas tube cover?

It should. As long as your gas tube is secure, the guard is just there to keep your hand from being burned.
