Saiga 7.62x39 or century vz-58(2008)
I will be buying a 7.62x39 rifle within the month. For the money, which one would you choose? both have pros and cons, but I dont quite trust century over izmash. Mag issues are obvious, but what about worksmanship, fit and finish? I have been pondering this....

Saiga is my pick, don't forget they make a longer barreled version for the same price. Several companies are currently making higher cap magazines for the Saiga in every caliber. The Saiga is made in Russia, by drunk people who know what the AK-47 is supposed to work like. The Century gun was probably a good gun at one time, too bad all the good parts had to be removed & then tossed in the trash...

saiga or vz58
saiga is russian, mags easy to get, but vz58 isCzech which is better built but you cant use ak mags but have to use vz58 which i dont know how thesupply of mags is or cost

you can buy a factory converted saiga for about $750 here. a standard saiga is o.k. but a converted one gives you all the advantages of an ak.
check out crown gun and pawn website and do a gun search for 7.62x39.
you can see pics of them there.
or, you can buy a new saiga from that outfit in arizona and do the conversion yourself if you're handy working on guns. :)

re: Saiga vs. VZ-58 ... I know nothing about the VZ, but I was brought a Saiga by a friend who was consternated to find it couldn't use AK mags without a special "bullet bumper". I machined one and welded it in (the 'factory' v. is attached by a screw). It worked okay, but "drunk AK-47 techs" sounds about right ...
