Default Questions on how to replace stock on SKS

I bought a Tapco intrafuse stock. I am going to replace the original wood with it. Is there a diagram or can someone here explain to me how to swap these out? I found the SKS pretty simple to break down and clean. I didn't mess which the trigger but figured out how to break down the bolt assembly and piston assembly. I noticed a screw on the side. Is this where I start?

Field strip it. Then there is a tab in the rear of the trigger housing. Push the tab in with a punch or screw driver then pivot out the trigger group. Then the rest should be easy.

As Doc said- leave the cross bolt in the stock alone.

Now, it sounds as if you may not have stripped your rifle for a thorough cleaning. Would urge you to do that. Really.

Here is how to strip an SKS-

Do I leave the magazine and magazine housing off when I reassemble it with the Tapco stock?

Update on the Tapco conversion. Went together easily with no problems. One thing they dont tell you is that you need to buy the piston tube part of the hand rail seperatelt, which adds a good bit more to the expence. It does come with a piece that has a rail on it but you have to do some gun smithing to put it on and from what I read is a huge pain and can easily destroy the furniture so if you plan on ever having the option of going back to original you would be screwed.
I got the 20 rd magazine which doesnt work very well and jams up every now and then. Also you will not have a bolt catch with this magazine and it wont stay open. I am going back to the ten round mag it came with. It does look pretty cool and fits snug though. I left the original wooden piston part of the hand rail on.
All in all I probably wouldnt bother unless you are just bored.

Sorry you had to learn the hard way, but thanks for sharing your experience. I usually try to steer people toward leaving an SKS in its stock military form. If folks want something to "Tac out" they are usually better off with an AK or an AR. The best high cap mags I've seen for the SKS are the Chinese military fixed 20 rounders.
