I recently bought a CAI WASR10 AK-47 and wanted to add a scope to it. So I bought a receiver cover with rail mounts on it

When I tried to put the receiver cover on it was too long to fit correctly (by a few cm). My question is how do I fix this? Do I need to file one end down? If so which end? Or should I just get the side mount and leave the receiver cover alone? Thanks for any help.

I have the same cover I wanted to install it on my AMD-65. You must do some filing on the front end and also some on the small square opening at the rear where the spring locking tab is. Check the one you remove and break out your files. Go slow you can get it to install.

Now my Hungarian AMD-65 has no side rail, so I needed this cover. If your rifle has a side rail I would get a UTG 973 rail mount and then mount and optic of your choice to it, or get a Russian PSOP scope with the mount attached and use it.

Do some comparing and measuring it is the front small lip of the cover that must go into the rounded groove in the rifle.
My small square at rear for spring lock had to be filed a little as it was some what smaller then the original covers opening so the lock did not snap into it easy you want it as tight as it can be.

I found the weaver rail did not allow my EOTect to fit as tight as I wished, a layer of plastic from sandwich bag between the rail and the EOTect made it tight.

The cover may not seem rock solid after being installed and rear screws tightened, but it holds the sight zero pretty good.

These cover installed rails are not the really best way to install a optic but they do a fairly good cheap way of doing the job.
