Need SKS advice.

I just got off the phone with several different gunsmiths about headspacing an SKS. None had ever done it before and the last one said that it was unnecessary. He said that they are "so loose that as long as the bolt closes on a cartridge that it's fine." He then said that if it made me feel better he could look at it, but it was fine.

So what am I to do here guys?

So, what was the solution?

My local class 3 gunsmith also said that it was fine. He builds AKs more than anything else and said as long as the barrel is original and has never been separated that it doesn't matter.

He said when he builds AKs he checks the barrel but the bolt is always fine.

Please be sure to clean all the cosmoline from the

chamber and barrel, before firing.

Hopefully, it's a used rifle, and you

won't have to worry about cosmo too much...

In addition- and this is VERY IMPORTANT- remove and clean bolt. Use spray gun cleaner on the firing pin channel (wear safety glasses while using the spray) Cosmoline that gunks up the firing pin can cause it to stick in the forward position- resulting in uncontrolled AWCRAP full auto fire.

Will do guys, thanks.

I recommend a spring loaded firing pin when you get a chance. It's worth the piece of mind.
