My new sks, Very low number..
I just purchased an SKS, its Norinco and in pretty awesome condition. My main question is about the numbers. It is number matching but the number is 00090. This seems kinda low in number to me, is a low number like that common or did I stumble upon something? I went in looking for something nice and cheap and noticed it right away, it was really clean and I went straight to look for matching numbers and noticed the low number. Anyone wanna fill me in on this?
Charlie- if you can put up a pic of the markings.....
Serial numbers of military firearms are not ALWAYS a unique number- they are sometimes production numbers- get to 99999, and roll over back to 00001. Which was a problem when folks began importing the Chicom type 56 (their term for the SKS 45). Additiional numbers had to be added to make them unique.
Unique- how one catches a wabbit. Unique up behind him with a wock.
First of all, the rifle appears in very nice condition. Com-bloc Milsurp
collectors will like the lower serial #, even though it's hard to produce
solid evidence of a heightened value. It will be a great
conversation starter at the range, campfire, or
for your shooting friends.
Another issue is iron-curtain weapons manufacturing has been
shrouded in secrecy for decades.
It's not like checking the serial # on a S&W 29.
I have a Russian rifle from 1925 with matching serial#s "1590",
which might actually mean something, if there were
any documentation paradigms to use as a reference...
right.. Well thanks anyway, all that really matters is it looks good setting next to my 91/30.. I just refinished the wood on it and kinda want to do the sks (except that its brand new looking..) I've owned and sold a lot of guns and its time to finally start building my collection.. I am a gun whore and gotta make myself keep my guns. Need to go pick up a Norinco AK to match while I can still get em in America
It looks like a great rifle.
IMO, it would be an asset to anyone's
Don't forget to find out first hand just how
much fun they are to shoot.
It's hard to find a better truck gun, for my money.
