My first AK

Ran up to the LGS today to just browse and price compare and ran into this little beauty. It's am already converted Saiga AK in 7.62x39 with the scope mount already installed, just need to pick up a mounting system and red dot after I am proficient with iron sights. The only reason I ended up walking away with is because it was priced at the non converted prices I've been seeing but enough talk and pics!!

I likes it!

Test it on a bear, soft point ammo.

Well thank ya! and if one runs out in front of me, I'll pop a few into it.

But i do have a question, would this hand guard still fit even though mine has the pistol grip and everything?

My son bought a Saiga in the Spring of this year and he loves it. It is, in my opinion, a far better weapon than the SAR-1 I bought in the late 90s.

Nice, I wanna get the same one, how much did you get it for?
Need a range report for sure!

I am not certain, since the ad says "unconverted", but i don't understand why moving the trigger & the pistol grip would affect the foregrip.

Some Saiga guru will be by to explain, i'm sure.

I got it for 699.98 plus tax so a little less than 760 fully converted with two mags. And I actually just left the range but had no targets to take pictures of unless it was exploded rocks haha but it was amazing to shoot, I highly recommend getting one! I also would recommend a muzzle brake as that mine had a lot of climb but almost no recoil at all

Is this just a thread cover or do I need to have it threaded? Sorry for crappy pics

fupuk 09-26-2012 09:14 AM

I personally cant tell 100% from the picture but it lookes like its not threaded. Mine was spot welded on and it still is. I just have not had the time to get my dremel out and take the spot weld off. Im sure someone with more experiance will ring in soon and help you out better than me.

Not a guru, but "unconverted" means it is a direct replacement for the factory forward handguard. Some folks do conversion work on the front end so as to use standard AKM handguard sets. It completes the whole look.

If you DO get the MI set, keep me in mind with a PM as I'll buy that "ventilated" factory handguard off of you, as I'm keeping my SAIGA unconverted unless I can trade it away for an U/Folder AK.
