They have some good info.

When you remove the gas tube on top there, don't be looking at it; keep a hand over the end nearest the receiver to keep that piston thing in the base from springing across the room.
lol too late. I also removed the bolt housing with the chamber open. The spring flew across the room and hit my dog. I didn't get into the trigger housing and I don't plan too. Im not good when it comes to small parts. I bought that Tapco stock that was linked above. I wonder how easy that will go on. I do see a screw on the side of the stock. Is that all there is to it? Just want to mention how appreciative I am of the members on this board. Everyone seems so eager and excited to help a newb like me. I have seen other boards where that is not the case and every discussion turns into a di-- measuring contest. Many thanks to all.

I am presuming you are in the US. The rifle was indeed imported by a Canadian company. It likely crossed the border, probably illegally some time later. Chinese imports were banned under Clinton. You may have a problem on your hands.

Tapco stock was a breeze to install on my Norinco/Chinese. I did have to put some oomph on that screwdriver to push the trigger group release (right behind trigger guard).

That looks like a beautiful carbine.

I'd be surprised if it isn't the source of many good

times.

Im pretty sure he got it before the ban. I think that is the reason he got it. He's not really that into guns but someone gave it to him as a gift because they thought it might be worth money one day after the ban. Would this make a difference legally?

$5.99 a box of 20 at Academy, only problem is you can only buy one box at a time. Fortunately I have lots of friends and a Grand Cherokee to haul them to Academy.

Wal mart has them pretty regularly now for about 6 a box too. I went to the gun store today and over paid $10 box for Wolf. I just bought a few to take to the range when I go and try it out. Ill find some cheaper next week. Plus I just bought an AR with tons of add ons, a S&W .40 and about 1000 rds of ammo plus the stock for the SKS. My funds are a little depleted right now.

Its also got Chinese writing on the sling. Also has a triangle with some inscription in it etched on the side near the serial number. I just figured out how to take it apart. Didn't take long. I think Im going to like this thing.
There was an importer in Ontario, California that brought in a bunch of SKS before the ban.

Ok to update I took it to the range today. I only put about 60 rds through it but I was impressed. Fun little gun. The sights were pretty much dead on right out of the box. There are some minor adjustments to be made but I was plinking iron at 100 easily. I hate to say it but I may like this gun more than my AR just for range shooting. It helps that the ammo is so cheap. Cant wait till the Tapco stock comes in but I have a feeling I may just wind up putting the original back on in the long run.
