Not to worry, his design will live on.

RIP Comrade Mikhail Kalashnikov.

He will be remembered as the father of the AK.

Most of what we think we know about MK are assumptions based on either Soviet propaganda or Internet mythology. No biography, no true history of the AK project has been published to this day. Anything published in Russia under the present regime will be suspect again. It may be a long time before we know who MK really was.

Watched a pretty good History Channel Bio on him years ago. This former tank mechanic discussed his design, vehemently denied it being at all based on the German MP 44, and compared it side by side to Stoners AR Platform.

Can't argue with reliability which is why most of us have one... Or several.

Default MK funeral arrangements

Apparently there has been a tug of war between Izhevsk and Moscow over where to bury Kalashnikov's remains. Initially the funeral was scheduled for December 26 at a cemetery in Izhevsk, which is yesterday local time. It didn't happen. Moscow reportedly prevailed, and now the date is today December 27 local time. MK should be given a top level military funeral. I will try to follow up.
