just scoped my sks....

i just finished mounting a scope on my sks today. this is my very first gun and my favorite! over the years ive had about a half a dozen different scopes & mounts. all have eather a poor fit, rattled loose, or were just a pain to deal with.. so i desided to go with a psop scope and a side mounted rail. i havent taken it out yet, but it already it seems much more rigid than the cover mounts. i like the military recitcle and rangefinder. i am a little sad i cant use stripper clips anymore.
in case anybody is wondering, its a 1954 russian sks; with a 8x42 posp scope.

Looks very little like any SKS I've seen lately, good looking rifle you have there.

i think the SKS started my love for military guns... being younger when i got this i wanted something "blactical" i call it my "mini-dragunov" and with the prices of a real russian SVD it will have to do for a while

Where's the bayonet? :D
Nice set up, let us know how it works when you actually get to shoot it. Bet you have some chin weld on that high of a scope.

snipers dont need bayonets..... really the stock doesnt have the cutout for it, and i put a muzzle brake. the cheek rest is high anyways (i have to take it off to use open sights) so its not too bad.
i hope to take it shooting the nex week or so........

Looks good! Tell us about the mounting process for your scope rail & hardware, please. Did you DIY, local shop/smith, or did you send it off somewhere?

Got any pics of the business side, scope/mount-wise?

I gave up on the scopes for my SKS due to the receiver cover mounts.

Very nice rifle. Makes me want one even more to add to the collection.

mounting a scope on the sks turned in to a quest.. as i said before i went though a few mounts. theres really no gunsmiths in my area so i ended up doing it myself. i was going to post it in the DIY area, but this is actually the second time i mounted the scope. i messed up the first time and didnt want to start anybody off on my mistakes. (at least the rail hides it well.) i would recommend a laser bore sight and a GOOD set of taps. (i broke a tap the 1st time and its a nightmare!)
i bought the scope and rail from kalinka optics. the rail comes without holes so its a custom thing. the hardest part was lining up the scope. i got some double sided tape from the hobby shop (the kind to attach servos or electonics in RCs) stuck it to the rail, then lined up the scope using the bore sight and attached the rail to the rifle. (i double checked that the scope still lined up with the bore sight.) the tape keeps the rail in place while you drill the holes. after drilling the holes remove the rail and tape. tap the holes and mount the rail. after that i had remove a bit of the stock to allow for the rail.
heres some pics.... the fit between the rail and stock woulda been better but like i said it was the second time...
