Default Inexpensive AK

I've been thinking alot about getting myself an AK. Anyone have any ideas/experience on a cheap (in price not quality) model AK?

Just picked up a Bulgarian M74 Sporter (AK74) from Century Arms for $395.

I didn't get a chance to get it to the range last weekend but will let you know as soon as I do. My first impression is it seems well made.

Unconverted SAIGAs seem to be the best value these days as even WASRs have gone up.

Yes the Bulgy 74 is a nice gun but the only problem if you have women shooters or kids they will want to take it away from you.
It is very accurate & has almost no recoil.
My girlfriend loves to wait until there is some shooters at the range with their long range guns trying to hit the 400yd gongs & she will load up the 74 mags. Then wait until the other shooters are reloading then go through a 30rd mag full, hitting the gongs almost every time. She can hit every shot but she gets laughing & misses. She has had a few shooters pack up & leave, others just want to know what she is shooting.
I have let a few others shoot the 74 & almost every one says "I want one!"

I've waited and searched for a particular relatively cheap AK that suddenly appeared at one of our gun shows in Florida. I scrutinized one that I had always wanted.
A Romanian WASR 10/63 AKM 47 (1967) with straight sights, non-wobbling mag, and serial numbers that matched. I paid 449.00 for it, and have been happy with it since (two months).

So what's the difference between a 47 and a 74?
