I have a buddy with a WASR-10; it is a basic, semi-auto, Romanian version of an AK47. Dude has really enjoyed his WASR. If you search "wasr" in this section of the forum, you should find some pictures of different WASR's in different stages of customization. I was told the "10-63" was just used to distinguish this rifle from earlier, remarkably similar models.

I continue to lust after one of the Draco's myself, like an AK midget.

first AK
I had been planning on getting an AK of some sort and had done much research. I finally settled on a Saiga 7.62x39 and was price shopping on line and locally here in the Dallas area. Best price on line was 339.00 (plus FFL, shipping, tax, etc.) and locally the best was 389.00. Well I went to the gun show in Mesquite this weekend and got my Saiga for 299.00 plus tax
It came with 1 10-rnd mag and I've ordered a 20rnd Promag. Midwest supply also has 30 rounders for 22.00
Haven't shot it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Those are decent prices. Pretty average (maybe slightly lower) for cases, but awesome bulk deals. Anyone wanna go halfers on a pallet?
Anyone with experience?

You said home defense? What kind of area do you live in? If you have neighbors anywhere near you I would advise against using a rifle for home defense. On the other hand, if you live in an open rural area, a rifle might not be a bad idea.
But a Saiga shotgun might be better suited if you want an AK style gun for home defense.

In today's market the AK74 is about the same price as the AK47, but the 74 is a lot more accurate. And much cheaper to shoot the 74 shoots 5.45x39 that is running from $130 to $150 per 1080rds. the 47 ammo is about $200+ per 1000
You can actually pay for your gun with the savings from the difference of the two types of ammo.
This is a great plinker gun, if you need a gun for home defense buy a shotgun.

Home defense???? Might want to rethink spraying the inside of your home with rounds that can penetrate a car door at 100 yds, just my opinion but the AK should stay on the range, get a 12 ga for HD.
