I do not like the side rail mounted optics on the aks and I do not want to mount an optic on the fore end rails I would like for my rails to be on top of the reciver like the zaztava pap ak47s can you drill and tap .the top of an ak reciever and screw in a tac rail? Can you weld one on? I do not want to buy a completly new reciever either.

How about an optics rail that mounts over your receiver cover like this.

I'm not sure how good it will hold zero after you pull it off to clean the weapon.

TWS and DPH make a rail that connects to the rear sight and rear trunnion. I have the DPH and it works well.

I don't see the reason for a red-dot sight on an AK47. Or maybe I'm just old-fashioned about the expected use of an AK47 normally.

There are mounts the fit where the rear sight is.
Scout scopes I think.

I put a quad rail on mine. I've run a red dot sight without any problems.

Go w/ the side rail. You can still use irons w/ it. I use a red dot on my 74 clone for Coyote hunting. Works great past 100 yards.
