Default hot hand

Shot my sks for the first time a couple of weekends ago. Shot well, but my forward hand got short burst of heat. I had a 20 and 30 round detachable mag and got going pretty good when i felt this. Anyone else have this issue? Barrel must have gotten fairly hot. Any suggestions other than slowing down. Thats not very fun.

Not sure exactly what you mean but shooting 20 to 30 continuous rds,out of any semi-auto rifle will cause the barrel and the gas tube to get hot, some rifles take even less.

When it bursts into flames, you should worry!

You talking about the upper handguard---the one that has the piston
tube running through the middle?

I've got an SKS D model Sporter--the one that was made to take AK
mags. 120 fast rounds (4 30 rd mags) and my upper handguard did
burst into flames. Replaced the wood one with a perforated metal
one. No more problems. Now the stock smokes a bit, and the paint
kind of blisters, but the handguard stays tolerably cool.

Thanks guys. I knew the barrel would get hot, I just didn't realize i would feel it. My old sks was a fixed 10 rounder, could put them thru it as fast as i could pull and never felt a thing.

My Romey AK barrel will run at ~375 F after 2 - 30rd mags of bump-fire.

Wear a glove or attach a forward handle for the win.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!
