I am tryin to find out if it is a common thing to have the cartridges get dents on extraction such as the ones in this picture taken today???

Yes it's a common thing in some rifles,it's usually caused by the case hitting some part of the receiver or even the bolt handle as it's ejected.

Common? Yes, for European and Russian rifles. You should see how an HK-91 dings the cases. Does little to affect the reloadability of the case. Most of the dent will disappear when resized. The rest will iron out upon firing only to be replaced by new dents upon ejection. Don't worry about the dents.

Most of the 7.62 x 39 that I have seen laying around look like that. My SKS doesn't do it. But a lot of them must.

I had a springfield g.i. 1911 that did this also. I was told its no big deal unless you're trying to save brass.

Some AKM dust covers have a rolled edge at the top rear of the ejection port. Replacing the cover will lessen the casing damage.
