Cheap but good AKs

M looking for an AK or AK variant for around $500 but about as reliable as the Russian made

Any AK can be good. Classicfirearms.com has a nice selection of AKs. The have converted Saigas for $499.

Wasr 10 is a good one for the money, around my parts they are going for around $400

I was thinking about those but I heard bad and good reviews so I'm confused

Canted front sights are the most common problem. Hand picking it solves that problem.

It would probably help if you familiarized yourself

with your friend's AKs first, so you

will know what to look for. They

are not a complicated gun.

Wow, that's tempting! And right now converted Saigas are on sale for $450, just a little more than a WASR. If I were buying new today I'd go with this deal but I've had my WASR five years and trust it.

My nephew bought a WASR from them and has been very happy with it. No reported problems.

I've been wondering about the reviews for the Century version of a VZ-58 (not really an "AK").

mjkeat 11-21-2011 06:13 PM

Q, $450 is a great deal.

I was going to get a VZ-58 but passed it up to later read they are awesome, light and perfectly balanced. I'm not sure about the CIA version but who knows. I still want to try one out.

Yeah, $450 is a great deal on a modded Saiga and it won't last long. Very tempting to get a 5.45x39 since I already have the 7.62x39.

But right now I think I'll go with a LE trade-in S&W 5906, they're pretty cheap right now. And a darn good US made 9mm.
