Century AK-47, ok or bad?
All I see when I look on dealers's sites is Century, and IO. There are others, probaly better, but are way out of my price range, (like $550). I know if i buy one to look at it first, to check for a straight block and fit and finish issues. But now are there any century or IO models I could put faith in on ordering online. Some have milled recievers and look alright. Any thoughts?

Well I can't say anything bad about my WASR-10/63. Had if four years and no problems over what you'd expect from any rifle. Of course it's the lowest common denominator AKM out there but you have to chuckle when people talk about "quality AKs". :p They're supposed to be rough and cheap - but easy to use and reliable. Other than that whaddya need!

I know they're cheap and a lot of negatives have been said about WASRs and Century but I'm a fan. I have four Century imports and got my money's worth out of each one.

BTW, never seen an IO but have heard good and bad - probably much the same as Century.

Basically, what Quentin said applies to my shooting buddy's WASR10. It's solid, but everyone talks smack about Century. His sights were straight & finish was good. I will say that the wood furniture wasn't maple or anything of great quality, but it wasn't on there long.

The rabbit died, the one he shot with it that is.

Thats really good to hear. I have heard good things about the wasr 10-63. Do they have any kind of warranty?

Don't remember a thing about the warranty since I never needed it. No doubt mine's long over but definitely check that out with the dealer you choose.

Another Plus for the Century WASr - I have a 10/63 and a Wasr 2 - Both have had Zero issues as does the Century Yugo M70B1 I have, I've never met anyone personally that's had any of the documented issues with the Wasr's.

They do what they were meant to do.

I've had Century Arms rifles that predate the ban and they are still ticking. I also have Centurys that I've bought in the last couple years and have run 1000's of rounds of cheap ammo through w/o a hiccup. NEVER GOT A BAD ONE and I've been shooting AKs for a good minute now. ;)

I couldn't give you a round count, but it was during the time that a case of ammo was $80-$100, $250 bought you a NEW AK-47 (usually Chi-Coms ) and we shot them for months on end with out even running anything down the barrel. We still have a few of those rifles. One turned out to be a "Now-sought-after" Norinco.

Even though this is a fairly small cross section of ak shooters, these good reports are nice to see. All I hear on the web is bad things and i guess thats to be expected. thanks for all your help

Like most internet myths, the bad stories get passed along rather quickly and freely. I asked Bryan with Aim Surplus about his return rate on the WASR 10's and he said that of all the rifles they had sold(hundreds!) that he had only had 2 return. Some places will do a hand select for you at a small charge. Henderson Defense guarantees the WASR's that they sell will be correct and straight.
My WASR 10 was put together in 2004 and has a very slight cant to the front sight. It shoots to the point of aim so I never did get the sight straightened, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Century gets a bad rap, not sure why. I have never seen a Century AK of any type fail or have issues. I have a Wasr2 that has been flawless for years now.
