Best Ak for around $500

Hey all,

I've been looking for an AK for around $500. I was curious what peoples opinions are I the best or that price range. Saiga converted or Wasr10 etc...

If you're looking for something to have fun with for $500, i'd say get the wasr 10 and a butt load of ammo. Century has a bad rep with some people but i've had half a dozen of their wasr 10s and was happy with every one.

You won't be getting a "butt load" of ammunition but you should have a little money left over. You're probably looking at $430 for a WASR.

Wow, what state are you in? I can buy used wasr 10s for $200 - $300 all day long here in PA

When did we start talking used? Even at $300 that only leaves $200 for ammo. That won't even get you 1k rounds.

I'd like to see where someone had a WASR worth buying for $200 or even $300.

I have a WASR 10 Romanian AK but always wondered who manufactured them. Do they all co e from the same manufacturer but are converted to semi-auto by Tapco etc. before they can enter the US?

Different places do the work. I don't believe Tapco does anything beyond supply the trigger group. CIA is probably the mist common name in WASRs.

The use kits w/ American barrels and receivers then throw in a Tapco trigger group.

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined get a Saiga and convert it or purchase a converted Saiga.

Go with the saiga. Wasrs are alright, but a saiga is much better.

Just got a Saiga for 350.00 (classic arms) and the conversion parts from Carolina Shooting Supply (~200.00) so that is pretty close to your $500.00 budget.

Do the Saiga's take the standard AK mags or Saiga mags only?
