The longer barrels are very rare I have seen only 2 with a barrel over 16 in 5.45 the longer barrels are usually 5.56. It is all about demand everyone wants the shortest tactical looking rifle so they do not import a lot of the longer ones

all arsenal saiga's have bullet guides but its alot cheaper to do it yourself and steel all the way drop a tapco on a rock and watch it explode.

Default Saiga is the best choice

I did a full conversion on my saiga 7.62x39. I loved every minute of it. It was just as easy as all the videos made it look. As long as you can use a power tool and a file, and follow directions, you can do it.

I can help with questions too, Ill keep coming back to this thread

Good job chevy!!!!!! This was my first gun forum and there wasnt alot of info on the saiga rifle when I needed it. Are you a member or Saiga12 by chance?

Anyways, the saige rifle, in whatever caliber is the best choice for an ak47 IMO. There is some work to be done, but in the end you will be happy you did it yourself, and that it wasnt done by the minimun wage workers at Century Arms, who have about a 50/50 satisfaction rating.

Right now you can get a 7.62x39 saiga 16"bbl from Centerfire Systems, Inc. - Your Home For Ammo, Firearms, Magazines, and Gun Accessories for 299+. I got mine in feb of this year and I payed 420 all with shipping transfer. There seems to be a surplus now, but it may run out.

So get em, convert em, and youll love it. The conversion info is out there, thats how I did mine.

The tapco isnt that bad, but go european surplus steel. The euro ones are usually blued steel. S korea make them and there not quite as good, they are usually grey steel.
