what is better for a shtf enviornment, the compactness of the 74u or the longer range of the rifle? If you could choose 1 to last you any situation which is the best to go with

Both are great rifles, although the length is what can either make or break you. I'd go with the Krinkov (74U) because it's the same caliber as the normal 74 but it's a bit more short (due to the side or undersold stocks). It will help when trying to clear buildings or rooms. Hope this helped.
