Ak74?

I currently have the option to purchase an ak74 (not ak47) and I dont know anyone who's owned one or shot one so was hoping someone could give me some feedback on the gun and ammunition it uses and if the price is right, I'm geting it for around 450, and it's made up of different parts. Thank you

I have used a few in my day, great rifles. They're 5.45x39 and that ammo may be a bit pricy pending on where you are buying. AIM surplus and Cheaper Than Dirt are good places to buy. They're a blast to fire on FA and very controllable. Hope it helped.

An AK74 can be a fine gun. There's all kinds of AKs of varying degrees of quality and value...and yes, many are mix/match rifles.

My own personal preference would be an AK47 (7.62x39). If I want a smaller/faster round (which the AK74 is), I'd strongly prefer (and advise) going with an AR15. It's a far better supported round state-side, with a wide variety of bullet options, magazines, accessories, etc. You can get into basic brand new, extremely accurate and reliable ARs for about $600-800 right now. That might not be the case in a few months.

Long story short: An AK74 can be just fine, but major preference to an AR15 or AK47.

Isn't this the handgun forum? AK "pistols" exist, but aren't terribly practical in my opinion.

I have never heard of a "draco" style AK-74. As for the 74 base, I enjoy mine to no end. They are perfect for that price you mentioned. They are reliable and accurate if you tune it in. Do not let others fool you about the AK not being accurate. I can make most people with their AR platforms cry at the range. I say go for it and make sure to use a bore light and take it apart to look for wear and tear.

I have a CAI SAR-2(AK-74)

Ugly, crude looking, but utterly reliable and very accurate.

IOW, a near perfect combat weapon.

I have both the 7.62x39 and the 5.45x39 AKs I like them all and the 5.45x39 shoots great.;)

I love my AK74. Great gun, fun to shoot. The ammo I bought is from AIMsurplus. It's corrosive bulk ammo but its incredibly cheap, although the price has gone up a bit since the last time I bought some ammo. Like KB was saying, it's very easy to control. If matching serials don't matter to you, I'd say go for it
