They are fitted with chrome-moly barrels or for like $22 more they will fit a stainless steel match grade barrel. Lifetime warranty and well with in your price range. I shot one yesterday (model 7460) and it was awesome. Negligible recoil, consistent hits at 200 yards on a 10" steel plate and flawless performance (not to mention the beauty).

Needless to say when tax refunds come in I'm all over one. Just can't decide what caliber, stock option or finish I'm gonna go with.

Yeah those days are over pal. But then again that was when gas was under $1/gal so if you do the math $400 for an AK now isn't too bad, especially for the machine you get.

I have a WASR 10/63 and decided I wanted to buy another AK-47 that was a bit nicer, but like you I didn't want to spend more than $600. I searched around and researched and eventually bought the Egyptian AK-47 from Atlantic Firearms. It is $549 and if you are a member of THR or AR15.com (probably any firearm forum really) they will give you free shipping. Its a nice gun with a Nodak Spud receiver, chrome lined barrel, polished bolt carrier, and nicer wood than the WASRs. The black finish is nice as well. Its also contract built by lancaster arms and has a lifetime warranty. The only issue I have with it is mine came with canted FSB and they finished over the pins so I can't drift them out without drilling away some of the finish. I am going to buy an adjustable rear sight as a workaround to the canted FSB
