I was just watching an episode of Cops, set in California. A possible gang-related crime was being investigated and there were shell casings on the ground. The officer points it out and says, "It looks like a .308, which is consistent with an AK47."

I'm thinking to myself that the first caliber associated with the AK47 is the 7.62x39. I know that a 7.62 round is in the .30 caliber family, but it is NOT a .308 round. I'm guessing these police officers were not firearm experts...

Saigas are Russian AKs. They're produced in the Izmash factory that turns out AKs for the Russian army. They're no cheaper than any other AK.

True, but I forgot to mention this was an old re-run from the late 80's or early 90's. The saiga .308 was not a common rifle in the USA at that time.
