Though I prefer the AR I do like the AK.

A little something for the "AKs are not accurate" crowd.

Video doesn't work, what was it about?

I think it's funny when people are talking AR vs. AK, they usually compare quality built ARs accuracy to a crappy AK built somewhere in Pakistani caves. How about comparing the AR to a Galil or a Sako? The AR will more than likely still be more accurate, but only by a small margin. I've seen 1MOA groups shot with the better quality AKs and quality ammo.

There are also a few simple modifications that will aid a lesser AKs accuracy, one being new bolt carrier. In the original design the carrier had a round bottom, which with loose tolerances will be pushed from side to side, depending on which side the magazine is feeding from. This will sometimes
make the gun shoot two different groups. Not always easy to identify with the not-so-good sights and shooter error, easier with magnified optics. With iron sights, it may just look like the gun is grouping really bad, when in fact it is shooting two groups that look like one. On some newer AKs the problem is fixed with a flat bottom carrier that won't be affected (so much) by the feeding of the magazine and not tilting the bolt, resulting in better accuracy.

I like both the AR and the AK, although I'm much more comfortable with the AK because I haven't really shot that many ARs. Both are good guns and I will definately add an AR to the gun safe somewhere in the future.

Good on you Thedude.

I wonder how many of you have any experience with the VZ58 or even know it exists. I'm willing to bet that if people were more familiar with it these AK threads wouldn't waste bandwidth.
