Default AK magazines

Well, I think I told y'all a fib when I said I haven't had any issues with my new WASR 10/63. When I took it to the range the first time I was using my friend's Tapco magazines and they worked fine. Today when I loaded up the two steel magazines that came with the gun they were a bitch to top off. One of them was very difficult to get the last four or five into, the other was impossible to get more than 24 into.

Sounds like a problem with the mags, not the WASR.

Should I just scrap the magazines or is there something I can do to salvage them? Once loaded, it's almost impossible to rack the slide and have it strip one out of the magazine. Also, there is VERY little room for bullet overhead when loading them (about 1mm for both) is this normal for AK mags?

Have you taken them apart and looked at the springs and followers? Also check the inside of the mag bodies for rust or debris that could be hanging them up.

I'm not sure what you mean by "bullet overhead". Do you mean clearance between the tip of the bullet and the forward wall of the mag? There isn't usually a lot of space there. What type of ammo are you using? A different manufacturer, or bullet weight or style(fmj, sp, hp) may make a difference.

I cleaned the cosmoline out and lightly lubed them and no dice. I just emailed the manufacturer so we'll see if the problem gets resolved.

Also one of the followers is really scratched up and obviously well-used.

Update from Century International Arms: new magazines will be shipped immediately! Their customer service was nothing short of exceptional.
