AK Magazine Question
I have a Mac 90 AK and looking for a few more magazines for it.
It is chambered in 5.56 NATO (223 Rem.) Looking for a company who has them for sale. |
You should try 5.45 mags. I use 5 round .223 mags w/ my AK74 5.45 without issues. The only difference is the follower on some. The 5 round mags I bought had the same follower as My Bulgarian 5.45x39 mags. We tried a 30 rounder in my buddies Wasr .223, it held 32 rounds and functioned fine until it had a failure to feed on the last round.

Thank you for the information. My cousin has a Saiga that shoots the 5.45X39 and I believe that is the same magazine you are referring to.

Saiga mag is a single stack, Bulgarian mags are double. Totally different mag. You could also contact Tapco and see if there Galil mag will fit. Here is a link to the 74 mag. If you can find .223 marked followers, you would be all set. They may work well as is. Surplus 30rd AK74 5.45x39 Magazines |
You might be able to modify Bulgarian 5.56 "Cirlce 10" mags to work by filing down the back so they fit the MAK magwell. I did this for my Romanian SAR 3, and they work really well.

Thanks for the information. I have made a note of this information for future reference. I got in touch with Pro-mag today and they advised their AK A-5 223 Mags will work in the Mac 90. So I ordered three of them. I will let you guys know if they work. They advised if they did not I could send them back if in original condition. I guess it is worth a try. I have had the MAC 90 223/5.56 for some time. It was before they required them to have the thumb hole stock to be imported. Has the wood AK Pistol Grip, Hand-guard and Screw on Flash Hider. But only had the original mag I bought with it. Great little rifle and I love to shoot it.
