Try using some spraying some lubricant into the chamber or down the barrel so gravity pulls it into the chamber and let it soak for maybe 15 minutes or so. Then see if you can pull it out. If not it might need to soak longer or take it to a gunsmith.

Regarding what could be causing it. Have you cleaned it?

Did you get this sorted out yet? If not, try Build It Yourself Forum at gunsnet.net. In the hey-day of the AK home builds from kits they were the encyclopedia. To that end, have you tried the 'search' feature of that, this or any other forums? There's a plethora of info therein just waiting to be tapped.

EDIT: You might try searching 'failure to chamber'. It's more specific.

I made the mistake of chambering a round in my

AK before I cleaned it.

You will need to field strip it to access the round

for removal.

They all come cosmolined up, and the

barrel and chamber don't get cleared of goo

until first user does it.

Field strip your gun, use the cleaning rod to help push the round out of the chamber.
When you get the round out, use a drill with a .40 cal brass brush on cleaning rod with cleaning solvent to scrub the chamber out.
There is a good chance that someone has shot a bunch of old lacquer coated ammo through it without doing any cleaning.
I have seen a few AKs & SKSs that have this problem.
Or you could have a piece of broken case in the end of the chamber, get a small flash light to check the bottom of the chamber.

Is the barrel aftermarket? If so the chamber depth may be off. If not also check for scratches, gnashes, or even slag in the barrel if you haven't already.

Never Forget.

Try to get a pic or two of it as well, with and without a round in it.

Never Forget.
