AK 47 for hog hunting

Seeing as how ammo is so hard to find and I only have about 1300 rounds for my AR and almost double that for my AK, I've decided to dedicate my AK to the eradication of hogs on our property. My question is what should I outfit it with? It's bone stock right now so I have a clean slate to create a masterpiece

What type of AK clone do you have? Nothing wrong with using it bone stock. A good mount and good red dot could make it point a bit faster since the sights aren't the quickest in the world. Other than that I don't think they really need much other than good ammo.

It's a WASR 10/63. I wasn't too sure about getting into the AK world but I'm glad I did. After this stupid gun scare blows over and prices aren't to ridiculous, I'm going to buy an Arsenal in 5.45x39.

I decided to go with a Bushnell TRS-25. I've read good reviews on it. Now looking for a rail system! Does anyone have a suggestion for a rail over the gas tube and a beefier bottom. I don't need rails down there but would like to get rid of that tiny piece of wood.

MI makes decent rails for the WASR. And even the UTG rails get good reviews for the AK types. I have one if the TRS 25s that had ridden on my Marlin .30-30 for brush hunting. It did everything I needed it to.

You could also look into a rail that clamps to your side rail on the receiver. But if you are looking at ditching the front wood the rail systems are probably better.

If you can get a clean shot from about 300yds or so & your AK has a side rail you could try this set-up.

From 300 yds on a rest you can pick & choose what you are shooting.
If you can bait for them that would be even better.
If you are hunting in woods shooting 50yds or less it will help to use a red dot type because they are faster to get on target.

I ended up with a Mission First Tactical rail system, Tapco AK-74 style muzzle brake and a Tapco T6 stock. The TRS-25 should match up nicely with my cheek weld. Pictures and range reports will be up shortly.

The pig gun transformation has commenced! I'll post more pictures as the packages come in!
