Honestly, there is no high end AK. Not in the sense as applied to the AR (Les Baer, etc) The best available is probably the Vepr. It is impressively tight, including the "pencil box" lid secured with a redesigned push button. Overall fit and finish is AK deluxe, but would be considered average on a western made rifle.

The market and supply of AK type semiautos is so fluid and inconsistent, due to the mix and match foreign and domestic parts, that I just can't single out one brand you can trust. My bias is toward the Saiga, an all-new factory production. I liked the IOS, all US made, but have not fired it yet.

Default Ak 47 high end and low end

The best "bang for your buck" AK's out there are the Yugo/Serbian style. Most come with a 1.6mm RPK style receiver, American made barrel (some chrome lined, some not. That depends on the model), and Tapco G2 trigger. These AK's can be had for $500-$750

All come from the fabulous Zastava factory.

I have just found these zastava gems you speak of...I have been researching them a lot since joining this forum. Not to hijack the thread but have you ever heard of the zastava m70 30 06 mauser type rifle ? I just discovered this and am thinking of buying one soon.

Never looked into anything but their AK's. If it follows the quality of their AK rifles, I'm sure it is a good rifle.

Low cost but still good: the WASR and unconverted Saiga. I've had a WASR 10/63 for years and all I've had to do is correct its AW ban compliant "features". Otherwise it's as good as any semiauto AK.

My Centurian is all American made, milled stock, and of very good quality. It is worlds above many others that I've seen. Century had issues a long time ago but make very nice AK's now. A recent review had very good things to say.
