Adding a folding stock
I found an ak47 that I would like to buy. I would like to know if I can add a folding stock to the rifle?

What kind of AK (Chinese, Romanian, etc.)? Stamped receiver or milled? What type of folding stock?

With AKs you have to watch your parts count to ensure that you have enough US made parts to remain compliant with 922R restrictions.

I fyou wanted to throw an East German folding stock on a Chinese AK that was immported with a thumbhole stock, it could be a challenge n both fitting, and in getting enough compliant parts to make it happen legally.

Also, it can depend on what state you are in and what their restrictions are.

I will need to check. It is a used one that I am looking at.

On most stamped AKMs, the Romy or East German sidefolders are a direct swap for the Euro-sized wooden butt. They are ugly but solid.
The MAK90s or CHICOMs have slightly thicker metal, so these same side-folders have to be ground a wee bit to fit inside the tail of the recvr.

Here is a Romy sidefolder before I swapped it onto my WASR22. Went a bit overboard on the paracord wrap... It was photo'd at a lower level than the rifle - which is why it looks so small. I blonded all the wood and snagged a KVAR blonde poly grip to give the gun the all-blonde look.

The ak I found is a Armax 75 sporter. Going to replace the muzzle (with a us part) and the stock with a folding stock.

I have a Maadi imported by century arms. I bought the Tapco folder to put on it but soon found it did not fit my Maadi. I had to remove a welded on piece of metal on the back of the receiver before I could fit the Tapco stock on.
My Maadi has a US made trigger (Tapco),hammer, forfend, stock, and the bolt. I think that should be enough. Oh, the pistol grip as well.
This gun hates hollow points and they regularly jam on the point when going into the chamber. Once I fire them all off (bought 1000 rd case) I'll try FMJ and see if that works better.
So far the Tapco stock has been working great but it only has been on the gun for a week.

Armax? your buying a gun from the video game "Mass Effect"?

Never heard of an Armax AK. Not sure of the country of origin. Googled Armax and came up with a bunch of stuff from Mass Effect.

You might need to go with a US made stock as well. Ace makes good solid folders.

Might also want to make sure you aren't being sold a toy.

I was wondering about the name as well. I have handled the gun. It is being sold by a gun shop that I go to. Going to check on the name next time I am there.

Armax? Maybe a private-brand??
