I've been wondering how many 7.62x39 rounds will fit in a standard .50 Cal ammo can, loose. I just dumped this thing out and counted them. Total was 910, and I think there's room for another 90 but it'll be tight. I'm goin to Walmart right now to get another 100 to try and get 1,000.

I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

Dude, you can totally get another 90 in there. Put it in the back of your truck while driving to the store, you'll make it settle a bit.

Ok, got the other 100 rounds in, but it wasn't easy! Don't think I could get ANY more in there. So if anybody was wondering, like I was, here's your definitive answer. A standard .50 cal ammo can can hold 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39!

lol I find this thread funny. Some people would have just emptied the can, but instead you went to the store just to find another 90 rds to put back in it.
Do you not have an AK to shoot them with?

1,000 rounds of 7.62x39 or 5.56 is about all people usually put in a .50 can. It's easier to keep up with how much ammo you have. Plus when you by a .50 can full of 7.62 or 5.56 99.9% of the time it's going to be 1,000 rounds.

A little tip on ammo storage if you have not done so already. Rub petroleum jelly around the seal and throw in a oxygen absorber. And don't open the can unless you are using the ammo or changing the absorber out.
