Default 5.45x39 no longer being produced?

A buddy of mine knows I've been on the hunt for a nice AK74, I guess he was at one of the LGS an started talkin with the guy who tells him there no longer producing the 5.45 because they * lied * about the ballistics? Anybody out there that can clear this up for me?

Who is "they"? The Russians still use it for their service rifle, so "they" are still producing it. Sounds like a typical LGS legend. "They lied about the ballistics" so that is a reason to stop making it? What the Hell does that mean?

Ya nevermind. Exactly what I thought, former soviet union, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and many others are still producing it. Now weather or not good ole Obama will let it be imported is for another discussion else were..sorry for the post, a little research an I answered my own question.

Ya that's what I thought. That would be like u.s not making .223 cause the ballistics were fifteenth than what they claimed. Just not gonna happen. There's MILLIONS of AK varients that shoot the 5.45. Someone is going to make it..

If they ever stop importing the 5.45x39 round there is enough demand out there now that more US makers will pick it up. It may be a little expensive for a while but it will be there.
Hornady already makes a round in 5.45x39.
