Default Zastava M85 Mini Mauser

I was looking at a Zastava mini Mauser chambered in 7.62x39. Is this a good rifle?

Sure, but its basically a bolt action in a cartridge that is a bit weaker than a .30-30. But a good quality gun that would make a decent woods rifle for deer sized game, with affoardable ammo that doesn't kick too much. Would make a decent first deer gun I suppose.

Zastava makes some great rifles. It is also made in .223. Now, many people think that CZ (Česká zbrojovka) Czech republic and CZ (Crvena Zastava) Serbia are the same, they are infact two completely different companies. There is often confusion in the American market. Both Companies make VG rifles, Czech CZ are much more refined and Serbian more utilitarian. I own both and they both do exactly what they are intended for.
Czech Micro Mauser came 1st. http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-527-carbine/

Another tidbit about Zastava, they always have produced quality military weapons, But they were direct copies of existing weapons. Looks like they shortened a '98 action instead of making everything smaller as the Czechs did. For the price, I think it would be worth the $$. Better made then most of crap in its' price point. Bet those iron sights are very accurate. I would be looking hard at the M90 if you want a hunter, not that the rifle you are looking at would be under powered at shorter distances.

Zastava makes quality firearm. Two friends of mine have them, one in 7.62x39 and the other in 223.
The blueing is great, and they shoot accurately. For the money I believe they are worth it.

I have been looking for one in 7.62x39 myself. I think it would bake an excellent brush gun and plenty knockdown power for hogs at close range.
