Yugo SKS gas valve - Can't get it off and I've tried EVERYTHING!
I've been trying to replace the gas valve on my Yugo SKS. The problem is I can't get the old one off. I've tried all the recommendations I've found, and nothing has worked. I sprayed it down for a couple days with WD40, then Hoppe's Elite, then PB Blaster. When none of those worked, I submerged it in PB Blaster and let it sit for three days, with still no effect. I got a cheapo torch and tried heating it a few times, but it still wouldn't budge. Just for the heck of it, I put it back in the PB Blaster until I figured out what to do. It sat in it for 6 weeks before I decided to take one last crack at it. Still no success. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or am I better off just to toss the thing in the lake?
Also, is it possible to get a replacement barrel for it?
The Yugo's do not have chrome lined barrels or gas systems parts. They were actual issue rifles in the Yugosalvian military so they saw field deployment and the associated neglect from consript soldiers. The use of corrosive ammo w/o proper and prompt cleaning left some with major issues.
Post a pic or two so we can get a better idea of your problem. Many people swear by a product called "Kroil". It is reputed to be the best penetrating oil available. You might try some of this.
Next step is consultin a competent gunsmith in your area.
I do not know of any replacement barrels for the Yugo SKS's.
In life, strive to take the high road....It offers a better field of fire.

Well, there's yer problem. Click on the link I sent in my last reply- the shaft has to be up (vertical) and pushed to the rear so that it can be pulled out thru the BIG hole. THEN the valve can be removed.
