As far as pistol a 357 for revolver so you can be diverse in ammo (.38 or .357) or any pistol you trust and know how to use well. All the gadgets and latest gear are cool but it is your mind that must be your go to tool. People have survived with much less, so when it comes to being in the woods or survivning you should practice camping, bushcraft, snare making, fire starting and shelter building. These things are priceless as a rifle makes a horrible shleter or pillow LOL!
as an add on to that also keep In mind you need weapons as effective against live humans as you will the undead variety, the more you have the more people will want to take from you, a good set of NVGs never hurt for security purposes
